In the NRHA Non Pro class held Friday morning at the Billingsley Ford Southwest Reining Horse Association Futurity and Show, Michael Jeffcoat scored 146 on his great 5-year-old Spooks Gotta Run.
Jeffcoat, from Waurika, Oklahoma, has had the son of Spooks Gotta Gun out of Prettywhizprettydoes that he calls "Possum" since he was a 2-year-old and he has earnings over $60,000. In his futurity year he won the Level 2 Non Pro and Prime Time titles at the National Reining Horse Association Futurity and went on to win the Prime Time Championship at the NRHA Derby. The win at Ardmore earned $873, a champion buckle and Lawson Trophy in the class sponsored by Schmidt Reining Horses.
Reserve honors and the Intermediate Non Pro Championship – for the second consecutive year – went to Larry Barker on Dream It Magnum for a score of 145. Dream It Magnum is a family horse that he and his wife, Kathy, have enjoyed great success on. The 11-year-old mare by Magnum Chic Dream was the $2 Million sire's first Open Futurity finalist back in her futurity year in 2005.
Since then she has continued to be a winner for the Whitesboro, Texas couple. Kathy earned the National Affiliate Finals Limited Non Pro Championship on her in 2009, and currently rides her daughter. Larry noted, "We even owned her grand-dam." The win in the Intermediate Non Pro class sponsored by Craig Johnson Reining Horses was worth $563, along with a trophy buckle and a CR Morrison trophy.
Finishing second in the Intermediate Non Pro was Kaylan Marks of Yorktown, Texas on Tagged My Chic by Whiz N Tag Chex out of Cheeky Boom.
