Jay McLaughlin & Blind Sided Win Prelims; NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Finalists Determined

They cut in the herd work, they spun and slid in the rein work, and they galloped full-throttle down the fence. Now, the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity preliminaries are over, and Open riders know who will compete in the clean slate finals this Saturday, Oct. 5. Blind Sided, shown by Jay McLaughlin, won the rein work preliminaries and the preliminary composite in the Futurity Open.

The top composite preliminary score in the Open, a 664, belonged to Blind Sided (Peptoboonsmal x Lil Miss Shiney Chex x Shining Spark), shown by Jay McLaughlin and owned by Aaron Ranch. The roan stallion worked his way to a 218 in the herd work; won the rein work round with a 225; and finished strong with a 221 in the cow work preliminaries.

McLaughlin has two other horses in Saturday's finals: Shining Stuff, also owned by Aaron Ranch; and Bossie, owned by Bob & Kate Bellew.
