Explore. Learn. Do. A Hands-On Equine Event.
Taking the Reins presented by the Midwest Horse Fair® is a one-of-a-kind event held on August 24 & 25, 2013, at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, WI.
The inaugural 2012 event brought 3,800 people to the Madison area and offered them the experience to interact with world-class trainers in an intimate setting. Since Taking the Reins is about doing rather than just seeing, participation is highly encouraged and is in fact the main focus of the event. The recreational nature of equestrian sports gives even non-horse owners the chance to partake in activities at the event, which in turn helps to educate more people about the equestrian community.
Plans for 2013 include expanding on the number of experiences available while keeping the event family-friendly and affordable.Based on feedback from attendees and exhibitors, organizers are making changes to better serve those that participate. The event will be moved to a Saturday and a Sunday allowing attendees to spend their weekend in Madison and conclude their summer exploring the many options that the horse-world has to offer.
Organizers also aim to work with those directly involved in the Wisconsin Horse Council to get a pulse of what horse enthusiasts in the area are looking to see and do at an equine event. “We are trying to reinvent the equine experience and open the world of horse ownership up to a group of people who may otherwise never be exposed to it,” states Rhonda Reese, General Manager of Taking the Reins and Midwest Horse Fair®. “In addition to horse owners who want to work with clinicians to refine their skills, we invite the public to explore their passion, learn about the horse industry and do something completely new at Taking the Reins.”
