With the approval of the leaders of the municipal government of Shanghai, Shanghai Sports Bureau and the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) have agreed that the first LGCT event to be held in China will take place in Shanghai on June 6-8, 2014.
In a July 22 meeting with Longines Global Champions Tour Founder and President Jan Tops and LGCT advisor John L. Thornton, Mayor Yang Xiong said Shanghai looked forward to hosting the world’s premier equestrian series in accordance with its agreement with LGCT and to working together to promote the healthy growth of equestrian sports in Shanghai, China.
Mr Tops thanked the Mayor for this. He said the new date would allow for thorough planning and preparations to ensure that the inaugural event in China is truly world-class and an unqualified success. Mayor Yang was thankful for the extensive preparations that have taken place to date, including close co-operation between Chinese and European Union authorities on the issue of quarantine and anticipated a successful event to take place next June.
