The NRCHA Derby Begins Today in Paso Robles, CA

The National Reined Cow Horse Association Derby, the largest event for 4- and 5-year-old horses, kicks off today at 8:00 a.m. (Pacific) in the beautiful central California coastal city of Paso Robles.

Today's action focuses on the first leg of preliminary competition, the herd work, for 109 contenders in the Derby Open, Intermediate Open, Limited Open and Novice Horse Open divisions.

Horses are shown in three demanding events; herd work, rein work and cow work, and the scores from the preliminary round determines who will advance to the clean-slate finals this Saturday!

The field of Open competitors includes the defending 2012 Derby Open Champion, Sinful Cat (WR This Cats Smart x Sinful Playgirl), shown by Todd Crawford, Blanchard, Okla., for owner Stacy Lynch.
