The National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Cutting Academy will make its first stop for 2013 in Hillsborough, Ont., Canada, May 4, followed by a second clinic on May 10 in Lady Lake, Fla., in the start of its summer-long tour providing education and instruction to aspiring cutting horse enthusiasts.
Presented by Waco Bend Ranch, NCHA Cutting Academy events include two sessions. The first session focuses on understanding rules, tips on gaining the judges perspective and much more. The session includes a light breakfast and lunch.
The second session allows a limited number of registrants to cut live cattle with a leading trainer on hand to provide riders with constructive criticism and an idea of what the judge is looking for when showing.
Session Two is limited to 25 riders while there is no limit for Session One. A fee of $25 is charged for Session One, while the Session Two Fee is $150 and includes Session One. Those who are not able to enroll in Session Two are encouraged to monitor Session One at no additional charge.
For the Ontario event, registrants will hear from NCHA Director of Judges Russell McCord and trainer Robert Rust of Gordon, Texas, who is a five-time NCHA World Champion and Open Hall of Fame member. Robert has been training horses for 60 years and training cutting horses for over 40.
The Lady Lake, Fla., event will include McCord along with National Cowgirl Hall of Fame honoree Barbra Schulte, who captured the 1988 NCHA Derby, the 1992 NCHA Super Stakes Classic, and the 1992 Augusta Futurity – the first woman to wear the crowns for all three championships. Horses and riders trained by Barbra have earned numerous national, regional, and championship titles throughout her career.
The Ontario event will precede an Ontario Cutting Horse Association show to be held May 5 and the Lady Lake event will precede Florida CHA show on May 11-12.
