Richard & Sarah Winters at 2013 Midwest Horse Fair

Horsemanship is in the blood of the Winters’ family; evident in the many accomplishments of Richard Winters and 22 year old daughter, Sarah. Father and daughter will combine forces to present a series of demos at the 2013 Midwest Horse Fair. The expo is one of the nation’s top three-day equestrian events and will be held April 19, 20 & 21 – 2013 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, WI.

For three decades, Richard Winters has dedicated himself to honing his horsemanship skills and passing this knowledge on to others including his own daughter Sarah. “My father has given me a huge leg up in the equine industry,” explains Sarah Winters. “Opportunities have come my way that some people can only dream about. My horse addiction was not only facilitated, but cultivated by having one of the industries best horseman overseeing and encouraging my every move.” Not wanting to be a cookie cutter version of her father, Sarah nurtured her talents by working with some of the finest in the industry beginning when she left home at the age of 17.

The combined number of awards that both Richard and Sarah have won is astounding. His credentials include World Championship titles in the National Reined Cow Horse Association along withbeing an AA rated judge. He was the European International Colt Starting Champion, in Poland, the Super Cow Horse Championship, in California and won the West Coast Equine Experience $10,000 Colt Starting Challenge. In her short career, Sarah has earned 2 NRCHA World Championships, the 2008 Snaffle Bit Futurity Limited Open Reserve Champion and Ladies Reserve World Championship in both 2009 and 2011. She is also a two-time Open Finalist for NRCHA Premier Aged Events. In 2013, Sarah will continue the family tradition and compete at Road to the Horse, the colt-starting competition that her father won in 2009.

From cutting buffalo in Poland to serving as the Artist-in-Residence at the Thacher School in Ojai, California, Richard’s career has had in impact throughout the world. His vast experience spans from the rodeo arena to the high desert ranches of the American west and includes starting literally hundreds of horses that have gone onto almost every equine discipline imaginable.
