Susan Beebee was in top form on day one of the 24th annual Dansko Fair Hill International at the Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area in the scenic countryside of Fair Hill, MD.

Susan Beebee, Charlotte, NC, on the Dutch bred gelding, Wolf, owned by Plan Bee Equestrian, is the overnight leader following today’s CCI2* dressage competition with a penalty score of 40.8. “The weather is perfect, the atmosphere is beautiful and I think in this arena horses tend to ride nice,” said Susan of her day. This is the fifth year in a row that Susan has competed at the Fair Hill International.
Standing second in the CCI2* after dressage is Danielle Dichting, riding her own 14 year-old Germany bred chestnut gelding, The Graduate, with a penalty score of 41.4. This is the first Fair Hill International for the 22 year-old Roswell, GA based Dichting.
A close competition at the top of the CCI2* saw Australia’s Clayton Fredericks riding Hayley and Pat Parker’s Selle Français gelding Pigrela Des Cabanes placing 3rd with a penalty score of 43.6. Clayton is competing and training the horse for Hayley while she is away at University from his new training base in Ocala, FL.
Also taking place at the Fair Hill International is the Spalding Labs USEA Young Event Horse Championships. The Young Event Horse Championships feature young horses (ages 4 and 5) competing in three sections: Conformation & Type, Dressage Test, and Jumping Test/Gallop/General Impression. A sort of equestrian talent search, the Young Event Horse classes focus on the education and preparation of the event horse in a correct and progressive manner.
Leading in the Five-year old Championship Division after Conformation and Dressage judging today is Cooley Cross Border, an Irish Sport Horse gelding ridden by Kim Severson, Troy, VA, owned by Kim and Jackie Severson. In the Four-year old Division, Katie Murphy’s Hanoverian gelding, Esccord RGS, is presently leading going into tomorrow’s Jumping Test.
Dressage competition resumes at 9:15 am Friday with the CCI3*and CCI2* competitors. The Jumping phase of the Spalding Labs USEA Young Event Horse East Coast Championships is scheduled to begin at 8:30 am with the 5-year old Division.
This year’s Dansko Fair Hill International is once again part of the Professional Riders’ Organization (PRO) Tour Series. The Professional Riders’ Organization was founded in 2009 by event riders Phillip Dutton, Buck Davidson, Craig Thompson, Laura VanderVliet and Allison Springer with the thought that professional event riders have a special obligation to promote and strengthen their sport. PRO is dedicated to improving the standards of competition and promoting safety while working to attract new fans, sponsors and participants to the sport of three-day-eventing.
