The Showplace Fall Classic Championship Horse Show concluded this weekend at the Lamplight Equestrian Center in beautiful Wayne, IL, following a very successful week of competition. After a fantastic 2010 show season, the $60,000 Showplace Leading Rider Series wrapped up on Saturday, and the presentation of awards was held in the Grand Prix Ring.

The Showplace Leading Rider Series has tracked the top riders through a series of nine events throughout the year and awarded prizes to the top three riders in five different sections: The jumpers will award prizes in five different sections, including: $10,000 Leading Open Rider sponsored by Pony Lane Farm, $10,000 Leading Junior/Amateur-Owner Rider sponsored by T.H.I.S., $7,500 Leading Children’s/Adult Rider sponsored by WeatherTech.com, $2,500 Leading Modified Children’s/Adult Rider sponsored by Nutrena, and $2,500 Leading Low Children’s/Adult Rider sponsored by Our Day Farm. This year’s series also featured the Rolex Open Rider Challenge, in which a Rolex watch was awarded to the Leading Open Rider, sponsored by Gruno’s Diamonds.

The awards ceremony for the series was on Saturday, and the top three riders in each section were awarded bonus money (first place- 50%, second place- 30%, and third place- 20%). The top ten riders received ribbons and gift bags. All Classic and Grand Prix events held at the Showplace Fall Classic Championship Horse Show were worth double point values toward the Leading Rider Series.

Kicking off the 2010 awards ceremony, rider and trainer Maggie Jayne of Elgin, IL, won the $10,000 Leading Open Rider Award sponsored by Pony Lane Farm. Jayne amassed an impressive $37,300 in prize money throughout the year to earn the division’s gold medal, as well a beautiful Rolex watch. Following behind Jayne in the series was Thomas Cerra having earned $25,100. Nick Novak won $19,800 for the bronze.

"I have a great group of horses so it was just important to keep them all going for me and the kids," noted Jayne. "I was lucky enough to ride them in the grand prix classes while the kids did the Junior Jumpers. Choosing the right classes and doing only the ones that counted for the series was very important. We’re lucky to live near by for these shows but I think we would have competed during the Series anyway because it is a great group of classes."

Jayne added, "This win is special because you have to be so consistent and stick with it all summer. All my horses were great. It’s a really good setup for a long series and this was also a nice little confidence boost before we begin traveling for the winter."

Next in the awards, Lisa Goldman of Hawthorn Woods, IL, won the $10,000 Leading Junior/Amateur-Owner Rider Gold Medal sponsored by Taylor Harris Insurance Services (T.H.I.S). She totaled $18,600 in earnings through the year’s events.
