My name is Chelsea and I have been around horses all my life. I had a pony at first, but when I was three I got my very own horse. He was a big, black & white thirteen year old named Casper. It was love at first sight. When I was four I started barrel racing him by myself. I barrel raced on him for a long time and we won a lot of stuff in NBHA and got 3rd at Nationals in the 3d.

After I had had him about a month or so, after a play day I was talking to him and all of a sudden, for no reason at all he put his nose on my mouth. I called that a horse kiss. Now I am thirteen and my friends tease me about never being kissed by a guy. Not even by my long time boyfriend. But I always say right back," I was kissed by a guy when I was four, my horse Casper." They say that does not count but I think it does because he was my first love.

As I said, I am thirteen now and about a year or so ago I had to make a decision whether or not to put him down. He had cancer that could not be fixed so we took him to the vet for a sugery and they put him out in a pasture and he foundered because he was not used to a lot of grass (there is barely any at my house). He was getting better but then he started slipping back again. To make it easier on me my family went to my aunt’s house in Dallas and when I came back I knew he would be gone but I was not prepared for that, I never would be. I lost my first love to soon even though he was about twenty-three and lived his life to the fullest I was not ready for him to go. I still watch movies where somebody has to let there horse leave them or the horse dies and I cry not for the person in the movie but for Casper. My first Love.
