I have loved horses for as long as I can remember. I used to daydream about them and pretend I was a horse when I was little. I started horsebackriding lessons when I was about 7 till I was 8 then sadly, my trainer moved away. Then when I was about 12, I met my best friend Tara and she loved horses as much as me, and she told me about the place where she took lessons, so I went there for 2 years and had a wonderful time, until Tara stopped going there.

She then introduced me to her Aunt Kelly, and the awesome sport of Barrel-racing. Kelly taught me alot of things and let me ride her horse Chic, but I still longed for a horse of my own. Chic got lame and I started riding Kelly’s friends horse named Molly. Molly was a handfull! But in a fun way. She was totally bomb-proof, but, you guessed it, I still wanted my own horse, more now than ever.

Then one day I went to have my lesson, and Kelly was in her arena riding a new horse. It was love at first sight! Romeo was a pudgy, sorrel, Quarter horse gelding who had been retired off the racetrack and he hadn’t been ridden for about 2 years.

Later that night kelly let me ride Romeo in the roundpen. I was soo excited! He was the smoothest horse I had ever ridden, I totally fell for him right then and there. So I began riding him over the next couple of months. Those rides weren’t exactly perfect. Twice he ran off with me and about 5 times he tried to buck me off, but I still loved him. So kelly talked to my parents and they agreed to buy him for me, but I had no idea!

It was December 21 and we were going to see the horses. I was out shopping with some friends at a local tack shop and we had been there for about 3 hours when I wanted to go see Romeo! When I got there, I went and helped Tara saddle her horse up, and then I went across the street to get Romeo. When I got to his stall, the door was wide open and he was gone. I kinda panicked and I ran back across the street and told my Mom he was gone. Then kelly called Romeo’s owner and he’s like "Oh, sorry I sold him the other day," I was so devastated.

I started crying, cause I had wanted my parents to buy him for me, then I went to the roundpen to get water for the horses and all of a sudden, the gate opened and I saw Romeo in there with a big bow on his halter, he was mine!

Thanks for letting me share my story with you!
