At what age should a mare no longer be bred? A local mare had her first, and only foal so far, at the age of 5 or 6. She is now 25 years old and has been bred for a second time. Is this healthy? The mare did take and is currently in foal. What are the chances of a complicated foaling? The mare seems to be in good physical conditon.

The is no age limit. Like people it is an individual thing with each horse. As long as the mare is in good shape, and well managed then she should be fine.
