ENGLAND TEAM ANNOUNCED
Luke Tomlinson (5-goals) is to captain the England team in the FIP World Cup, to be held in Melbourne, Australia, from 27 March to 8 April. Luke captained the team that qualified in Rome last autumn.

Malcolm Borwick (5), who was also a member of the team in Rome, will be playing at Back. Tristan Pemble is earmarked for No 1 position, but it has yet to be decided whether James Beim, Mark Tomlinson or James Glasson will play at No 2.

TYRO CUP DATES
The first tournament of the new season at Cowdray Park Polo Club is the Tyro Cup. It begins on 29 April and the final will be played on 12 May.

The 8 to 12-goal Tyro is one of the oldest medium-goal trophies in English polo. Before the second world war it was a highlight of the calendar at Hurlingham Polo Club.

IRELAND VICTORIOUS IN INTERNATIONAL
Despite apparently overwhelming odds, Ireland galloped to victory in the Bank of Ireland’s Perpetual Cup at Polo Wicklow. At one stage it seemed as though visitors from Newport Polo Club, Boston, would carry off the trophy for the second time in eight years. However, due largely to brilliant work from Siobhan Herbst, Ireland not only equalised but snatched victory by two goals.

Siobhan Herbst was Player of the Tournament and Best Playing Pony was her mare, Tamara.

IRELAND: S. Herbst (1), 2. B. Lynam (1), 3. N. Keegan (0)

NEWPORT: 1. J. Shore (1), 2. J. Zynsky (1), 3. J. Kaye (3)
