The National Western Stock Show and Rodeo will buzz on Sunday, Jan. 21. The top 12 contestants in each event will compete for Copenhagen Cup Series points, and TNN will be in town taping the performance, as Denver is the first stop on the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour winter series.

The National Western, voted top PRCA Indoor Rodeo of the Year in 2000, played a big role in making the inaugural year of the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour a success. Just like this year, it was the first stop on the Tour, attracting 8,266 fans for the Tour round.

Winners in the Tour round last year were Ken Lensegrav (Kyle, S.D.) and Larry Sandvick (Belle Fourche, S.D.), bareback riding, 87 points; Steve Duhon (Sonora, Texas), steer wrestling, 3.6 seconds; Kevin Stewart (Glen Rose, Texas)/Martin Lucero (Stephenville, Texas), team roping, 5.2 seconds; Joe Slagowski (Carlin, Nev.), saddle bronc riding, 84 points; Justin Maass (Giddings, Texas), calf roping, 8.1 seconds; Charmayne James (Gustine, Texas), barrel racing, 14.80 seconds; and Josh O’Byrne (Animas, N.M.), bull riding, 88 points.

Leaders after 17 of 23 performances are: Bareback Riding: (total on two) 1. Bobby Mote (Redmond, Ore.), 158 points; 2. William Pittman II (Florence, Miss.), 155; and 3/4. Clint Corey (Powell Butte, Ore.) and Jared Lavergne (Ville Platte, La.), 154

Steer Wrestling: (total on two) 1/2. Birch Negaard (Buffalo, S.D.) and Curtis Cassidy (Donalda, Alberta), 7.7 seconds; 3. Vince Walker (Oakdale, Calif.), 8.5; and 4. Mickey Gee (Wichita Falls, Texas), 9.1.

Team Roping: (total on two) 1. Steve Purcella (Hereford, Texas)/Kory Koontz (Sudan, Texas), 10.2 seconds; 2. Turtle Powell (Alpine, Texas)/Wayne Folmer (El Paso, Texas), 10.5; 3. Nick Sartain (Yukon, Okla.)/Shannon Frascht (Alva, Okla.), 11.3; and 4. Shane Sproul (Arlee, Mont.)/Craig Branham (Canyon Country, Okla.), 11.4.

Saddle Bronc Riding: (total on two) 1. Bud Longbrake (DuPree, S.D.), 160 points; 2. Dean Schlattmann (Basin, Wyo.), 158; 3. Chance Dixon (Heppner, Ore.), 155; and 4. Dan Black (Maple Creek, Alberta), 149.

Calf Roping: (total on two) 1. Ricky Hyde (Mount Vernon, Ark.), 16.5 seconds; 2. Cash Myers (Athens, Texas), 17.8; 3. Jesse Egan (Dixon, Calif.), 18.1; and 4/5/6. Jeff Yates (Corsicana, Texas); Blair Burk (Durant, Okla.); and Glenn Freels Jr. (Woodstock, Ga.), 18.2.

Barrel Racing: (total on two) 1. Janae Ward (Addington, Okla.), 30.30 seconds; 2. Kelly Yates (Pueblo, Colo.), 30.38; 3. Julianne Wall (Blackfoot, Idaho), 30.51; and Teal Rice (Lakin, Kan.), 30.57.

Bull Riding: (total on two) 1. Colby Yates (Azle, Texas), 167 points; 2. Case Drake (Sayre, Okla.), 166; and 3/4. Shane Drury (Weatherford, Okla.) and Kelly Armstrong (Big Valley, Alberta), 161.

TNN will broadcast the National Western on Sun., Feb. 11 at 9 p.m. (ET) with repeats on Mon., Feb. 12 at 11 p.m. (ET) and Friday, Feb. 16 at 9p.m. (ET).
