Training and patience go hand in hand

I have a 6 month-old-Quarter Horse filly. She is being trained to neck rein, but I have another idea. I want her to know the barrles by heart. Do I start walking her around them now, to get her used to them? Where could I find some information about training?I have a 6 month-old-Quarter Horse filly. Bonnie,

Don’t be in any hurry! You have plenty of time to train your yearling to do anything you wish, but first you must have all your ground work training complete. She will learn more willingly and faster if she knows what you mean when you start walking the patterns, do roll backs and fence her, rate or place her in the pocket. There is a lot more to learn, believe me, when I train a horse … any horse … for barrels they are usually 2 1/2 – 3 years of age. So work with her, give a fair chance and she’ll do right by you in the future if you do right her now.
