Rainrot is contagious but treatable

I have an 18 year old quarter horse who has an awful case of rainrot. I have tried betadine washes. They kill the bacteria ,but I was wondering if there is any way that I can prevent him from losing his hair? Hey,
I have an 18 year old quarter horse who has an awful case of rainrot. I have tried betadine washes. They kill the bacteria ,but I was wondering if there is any way that I can prevent him from losing his hair? He is a beautiful horse and I am dependant upon his loks to get me throgh some shows.

Thank you,

Louann,

Don’t worry about the hair. It will grow back soon. Once you get the rain rot treated, be sure to clean all your tack as it can be a source of re-infection.
Thanks,
