First love, gone

I grew up around horses and I always asked my mom if I could have one and she always told me the same thing " you will get one when the time is right". On my 10th birthday my mom told me that she had got me a horse. She said, "Her name is Sis and she is 16 years old." Well that night my mom brought her home. A little red dun that was just as cute as could be.

I was so happy I rode her the whole next day. I had her for about a year and my brother wanted to take my horse on a scout trip, I told him he could as long as he promised to bring her home. He promised me that he would so I said go ahead.

He was gone for about a week and a half, when he came home he had a big scrape on his leg and did not look happy. I asked him if Sis was in her pen and he just looked at me. When mom came inside he told her that he needed to talk to her, and at that time I had a really bad feeling in my stomach.

I sat in the house just wandering what had happened. When my brother and my mom walked in side he told me that there was something that he needed to tell me. By that time I knew that she was gone because I could see it in his eyes. He said that Sis had mis-stepped on the rock in the mountains and he had to bail and she rolled down the hill at least 500 yards.

He had the saddle, the bridle, the reins and every thing and it all was covered in blood. I could not believe that she was gone, my first horse the one that was there for me to talk to was there no more.

I am 14 years old now and I have had 2 horses since then but I still wander why she had to go the way she did...
