Biddle's Double Win Weekend
By Sarah Dukes
America's seven-goal Tommy Biddle - taking part in both the 22-goal tournament at Palm Beach Polo and the 22-goal in Royal Palm - proved capable of being in two places almost at once, with back-to-back wins last weekend. His double victory started with a league win for Goshen in the Challenge Cup at Palm Beach Polo on Saturday against Grant's Farm Manor. It continued with Novogen's 12-8 defeat of San Saba in Royal Palm Polo's highlighted Sunday game in the Sunshine League, which also iced Biddle's cake by awarding him most valuable player and best playing pony accolades.
As league action continued in these tournaments earlier in the week Goshen defeated White Birch 13-8 for its third straight win and went on to remain undefeated for a fourth while marking Grant's Farm's copy book with the 11-10 overtime victory over Andy Busch's team. Kristy Waters - one of three women players currently taking the field in the Florida high goal - was awarded most valuable player honors in this featured Saturday afternoon game in Palm Beach Polo's stadium.
C Spear put a point on the board with a narrow defeat - 11-10 - of Coca Cola who has yet to win a game but then lost out to Lechuza Caracas by 10-7. Lechuza Caracas using Francisco Lanusse instead of an injured Felix Anzorreguy and centered on the 10-goal strategy of Pite Merlos, also claimed a win against FarmVet.com last week.
In the Sunshine League home team, Boca Polo - Jack Oxley, Juan Badiola, Juan Bollini and Joey Casey - defeated San Saba 10-7. Further Sunshine League encounters saw Everglades add a second win thanks to a goal-scoring spree from number two, Tomas Llorente - his game tally of 11 goals helping the team on its way to a 14-12 defeat of Boca-based Hartmoor lining up Martin Estrada, Luis Lalor, Benjamin Araya and Wink Hartman.
