What
is Extreme Cowboy Race™?
The Extreme Cowboy Race™ was created by Ryan
Dohrn of HorseCity.com and famed horse teacher Craig
Cameron. "The idea of the course was all Craig
and the TV aspect came from HorseCity.com. We are
a true team" said Dohrn. Fifteen cowboys and cowgirls
began the challenge, but only one was crowned the
Extreme Cowboy Race™ Champion. Viewers have
the opportunity to watch all of the heart stopping
action as horse-and-rider teams compete and are eliminated.
HorseCity.com decided to name the event the Extreme
Cowboy Race™ in an attempt to challenge typical
reality TV shows with an infusion of horseback thrills.
"The course is new for everyone involved," said
Ryan Dohrn, HorseCity.com general manager. "The winners
from Sacramento are now in a ranch setting and there
are a few new faces mixed in with the cowboys and
cowgirls. As always, there is a new twist to everyone's
favorite obstacles as well as a couple new ones thrown
in there."
Some of the favorite obstacles like the famous Texas
Three-Step, log drag and varieties of jumps were included,
but Cameron decided to bring in some new ones that
challenged the riders like never before. At one point
each rider has to strip his or her saddle of the horse
and pick up a rider and double ride bareback. Competitors
also had to use some of their roping skills being
asked to rope a green horse. Also this season, there
is a time limit for each obstacle and if a competitor
goes over the time limit, he or she will be ushered
on. This season has added more pressure to the cowboys
and cowgirls creating a race that is much more exciting
than previous ones. The winner this time around will
truly be able to call themselves the Extreme Cowboy
Race Champion!
The "Extreme Cowboy Race" is a timed race with obstacles
designed to not only push horse and rider out of their
traditional comfort zone, but also test the communication
and horsemanship of each team. Judges award points
based on a set of five criteria: 1. Horsemanship,
2. Cadence, 3. Control, 4. Horse's attitude, and 5.
Overall execution. The first round of competition
features 14 horse-and-rider teams. The top eight competitors
move on to Round 2 for another set of competition.
The top four competitors then advance to Round 3 for
an all-out race to the finish and the title of "Extreme
Cowboy."
