It took a 221 to win the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Derby Level(L) 4 Open Championship, sponsored by KL Performance Horses. When Cira Baeck of Belgium, riding Colonels Shining Gun for Katarzyna Roleska, burst in the pen, she set a 219.5 to beat. Her deep stops, fast spins and trademark circles earned her a 221 and the title!
The qualifying go-round of the Euro74,500-added KL Performance Horses Open Derby opened the NRHA European Derby in Manerbio, Italy today. Ninety-three horse-rider combinations in the four levels rode for a spot in the finals in the Palasturla arena.
At the close of this year’s National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Summer Spectacular, it was anybody’s game in the 22-horse Derby Open finals. But from the last draw of the first set, Tarin Rice piloted Miss Callie Cat to the championship.
You know it’s going to be a week-long battle in the saddle in every division when the increase in top horse and rider combinations over last year is a whopping 55%. The depth of talent was incredible and day after day the spectators were treated to an action packed competition as the best in the west battled it out for over $200,000 in added money and prizes.
NRHA is pleased to announce the crowning of a new All-Time Leading Dam, Miss Tinseltown, owned by NRHA Million Dollar Owner David Silva, Sr. Her progeny have won $680,750 in NRHA competition earning her this phenomenal achievement.

The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Derby hosted the High School Reining Championship for NRHA and Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) members. At the end of the class, Paisley Roberts won the championship with a score of 149.5 aboard Custom Made Pistol donated to the competition by Ashley Dunn and owner Sambambyr Farm.

The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Derby hosted North America’s top collegiate riders in the NRHA Collegiate Reining Championship. The championship consisted of 12 riders: four from the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA), four from the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) and four selected by NRHA.
