Filly Ria Antonia Confirmed for Preakness

The filly Ria Antonia will compete in the May 17 Preakness Stakes and be ridden by Calvin Borel, the Maryland Jockey Club confirmed on May 12th. 
 
Owned by Christopher Dunn and Loooch Racing Stable, Ria Antonia would bid to become the sixth filly to win the 1 3/16-mile Preakness at Pimlico Race Course, in Baltimore, Maryland. It appears a field of at least 10, including Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands winner California Chrome, is shaping up for the second leg of the Triple Crown.

C.A.N.T.E.R. Opens Texas Chapter - Helping Racehorses Find Careers After the Finish Line

CANTER (the Communication Alliance to Network Thoroughbred Ex-Racehorses) is now offering its nationally recognized service to Texas horseman with the opening of CANTER-Texas.

Volunteers are visiting tracks to offer free sales listings that include a photo, a description, and contact information, to trainers and owners looking to move their Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse, Paint, and Arabian ex-racehorses onto second careers.

Retired Racehorse Barrel Racing Event Gets a New Name and New Possibilities

The “X” in the newly renamed “Ultimate X Showdown” doesn’t stand for  ex-boyfriends or ex-wives, but it does have something in common with the X Games…namely that the toughest, fastest and strongest athletes will be on-hand to compete, only the “X” in this competition stands for “ex-racehorse”. On September 5, 2014, the Dreaming of Three Foundation will host its second all off-track Thoroughbred barrel racing event at the Simmons Equestrian Center in Negley, Ohio.  And this year, a new name was in order.

APHA Announces 2012 Running Champions

Logging a fantastic year on the track, CRM Livewire and Flashthechicks were named the American Paint Horse Association’s 2012 Running World Champions. CRM Livewire took home the World Champion title for Regular Registry Paints, and Flashthechicks was the Solid Paint-Bred World Champion. They topped the field of 20 APHA Running Champions for the 2012 season.
