Ruf Lil Magnum and Brian Bell Winners of the First Go-Round

The 2015 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Futurity held its fourth day of competition on Sunday including the first go, fourth section of more than $500,000 added Open Futurity, plus ancillary classes for Novice Horse Non Pro riders.

The excitement climaxes at the 50th running of the NRHA Futurity as the first go-round of the Open Futurity is over and the riders are preparing their horses for the second go-round!
 
The highest score in Level 4 of the NRHA Open Futurity posted yesterday by Brian Bell and Ruf Lil Magnum held through today making 224.5 the winning score of the first go-round. The sorrel stallion Ruf Lil Magnum is by the NRHA 3 Million Dollar Sire Magnum Chic Dream and out of Dunit A Lil Ruf (Lil Ruf Peppy) and is owned by Silver Spurs Equine.
 
Posting the highest score of the day and sweeping Levels 3 and 2 of the first go was Mathieu Buton with sorrel mare Ms Mercedes Whiz (Cromed Out Mercedes x Ms Hollywood Whiz x Topsail Whiz) who received a score of 221. Buton and his wife Angela Rybar own the mare that was previously consigned with the NRHA Futurity Prospect Sale.
 
Tying for the win in Level 1 were Justin Michels with bay gelding Cromed Out Gunner (Cromed Out Mercedes x Smoking Gypsy Rose x Gunner) owned by Joan E. Julen and Roberto Berti with sorrel stallion Double Down Shiner (Shine On Line x Wimpys Babe x Wimpys Little Step) owned by Mary A. Jansma, both scoring 217.5.
 
A portion of first go-round entries will move on to the semi-finals as follows:
Level 4 open division – Top 100 scores, plus ties (Bubble score: 214)
Level 3 open division – Top 75 scores, plus ties (Bubble score: 212)
Level 2 open division – Top 75 scores, plus ties (Bubble score: 210)
Level 1 open division – Top 50 scores, plus ties (Bubble score: 206.5)
 
The semi-finals begin on Monday, November 30 followed by the first go-round, first section of the Cinch NRHA Non Pro Futurity. The top horse-and-rider combinations, based on composite scores from the first go-round and semi-finals, will advance to the Open Futurity Finals on Saturday, December 5.
