For those used to the flashier dress codes of Western athletes, watching an English competition may seem rather bland. But paying close attention to detail will reveal a nuance of style that is consistent but subtle within the different categories of FEI events.

Disclaimer: This is not intended as a definitive list of proper apparel for competitors, but rather an idea of what’s in or what’s common at the FEI levels of dressage, show jumping, and eventing – check with your sport’s applicable rules, and with your own coach or trainer to see what items would suit you best.

Also, non-FEI level competitors have different fashion requirements in dressage and eventing – namely no shadbellys or top hats, but instead hunt coats and hunt caps or derbies.
